Harmony Riding offers riding lessons, camps, and birthday rides. We believe that equine related activities are beneficial to all people, especially children and youth, and wish to offer services to these and other individuals.
Our Mission:
To build strong riders who understand equine and rider biomechanics, and who can ride in harmony with their horse in both a pleasure or competition setting.
Our Team:
Shellie Rock Founder, Executive Director, Equine Specialist
Shellie's passion for horses started when she got her first horse at age 12. As she self-trained her personal horses for competitions, her love for training and teaching developed into a passion. Now, Shellie has been riding and training for 16 years. She uses a patient and gentle approach, while still demanding respect from her equine partners. In the past years, Shellie has done trail riding, trail competitions, parades, 4H, schooling shows, and breed shows. This includes both Western and English disciplines. She is familiar with a variety of breeds, including gaited horses, and was won a variety of awards in her competitions. Shellie started HR 7 years ago due to her love of teaching. She has worked with all ages of riders and especially enjoys working with children and beginners. She also has experience working with people with disabilities. Shellie also has EAGALA training and has worked as an Equine Specialist for an equine-assisted psychotherapy program. Shellie's goals are to expand her training and lesson students and continue to grow Harmony Riding as a riding program.
Leslie Hansen Director, Equine Therapist
Leslie loved horses from a young age. She passed on this love to her daughter Shellie. Shellie not only loved horses, she had a passion for them. At the age of thirteen Shellie worked daily to own and care for her own horse. As Leslie got older she discovered her true passion, counseling. Once she received her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, she and Shellie decided to put their passions together to provide Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Leslie graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Health Science. She received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2002 from the University of Phoenix. Throughout Leslie’s professional career, she has worked in a variety of settings including residential, private practice, outpatient therapy and in-home family preservation. Leslie has extensive experience working with depression and self-harming behaviors, anxiety disorders, PTSD/Trauma (particularly surrounding sexual abuse and reactivity), bipolar disorder and eating disorders. In addition, Leslie has strengths working with identity disorders and those involved with domestic violence and attachment issues. Leslie has provided Equine Assisted Psychotherapy while working in residential, outpatient and private practice settings. Leslie has three children. She enjoys camping, hiking and playing games with them. She also loves her alone time running and hiking. Halloween is her favorite holiday and Arches National Park is her favorite place to visit.
